Summer is around the corner

With spring already here and summer around the corner there are many motorcycle events happening all over. We post many on our facebook page and thought we would share some here as well. A big event happening Memorial Day weekend is Heart of the Rockies/Fallen Bikers Rally in Salida, Colorado. The link for that is
 http://www.hotrr.org . This will be taking place May 27-30, 2011. If your in the area or have vacation and are looking for something to do check out this event.

Another event this one taking place in Cookeville TN June 16-19, 2011 is the June Bug Boogie. This an adults only event. Another one day event in Lincolnton NC Area, July 23, 2011 is a worthy event. Praise Temple Bike Ministry and CMA Chapter 539 are hosting Backpacks for Kids Motorcycle Ride and Event. Registration 9am Staples on Main st. Lincolnton ending at Crowders Mountain. Registration is a backpack with 5 school supplies to be issued to needy children of Gaston and Lincoln County Contact "Chappy" Kevin Pitts 980-429-6877 or Mr. Stacy Jordon 704-913-0961. 


There are many events happening all over and in your own local areas. Just keep your eyes open for what's happening in your neighborhood. Many cities put out local papers on events happening in the area. Check them out.

Don't forget when planning on going to these events to make sure you have everything you need for your trip. If you need to pack items for your trip than make sure your leather saddlebags are big enough and in good shape. Be sure to wear all your protective gear when riding. A lot of people think with the warmer weather they don't need their leather. This is wrong. Leather keeps you warm but also protects you against wind, stones, and spills. So the leather chaps are too hot get yourself leggings or half chaps. You still need to wear gloves or half gloves.

Harley Davidson introduces its new Blackline Motorcycle

Here is some news for you Harley Davidson fans. They have now introduced it's new Blackline Motorcycle, a softail designed to celebrate the place young riders want to grow into and not out of. The Blackline is the next rebellious chapter for the iconic American Brand. The latest creation in the Dark Custom movement embodies three fundamentals of motorcycling: mechanical beauty, internal combustion and the wide open road.

Get ready for Holiday Shopping with some music

Okay this has nothing to do with motorcycle gear or leather jackets but, we thought this was great and wanted to share it since the holiday season is now upon us. Here is hoping everyone has a happy and healthy holiday season!

Fall Bike Rally at the Rat Hole in Myrtle Beach S.C.

Bikers wear leather because it is more protective to them than other materials. And in the video you do not see too many wearing leather because it was a beautiful Autumn day in South Carolina and they were playing in a grassy field not going down a road. When these bikers return to theirs homes, 95% will put on their leather motorcycle gear for their protection. They are responsible riders and know the need for protection from the weather and spills.

You can also see in the pictures people with leather vests with patches to show off their style. Many have leather saddlebags which carried their belongings for the trip.

So when you get on your bike for a ride make sure you are protected by a leather motorcycle jacket and leather chaps. Be sure to have a good fitting pair of leather gloves. Wear your helmet and always wear your protective footwear not sandals.

A motorcycle stunt show

So this has nothing to do with leather but, went to a fair last week and they had this motorcycle stunt show that we thought was really good. The video taping is not the greatest. Maintaining your Leather Jacket for Long Lasting Life

When you make a leather purchase your are making an investment. How you maintain your leather jacket can keep it looking and lasting like new and give you years of use. With just a little maintenance on your part you can add years of life to your investment. Here are some tips to help you keep that motorcycle jacket lasting for years.

After purchasing your leather jacket it is recommended to lightly spray it with a leather repellent/protectorant. This will help waterproof your leather. Mind you this waterproof is actually a repellent and only helps if you get stuck out on a ride and run into a little rain. It is NOT going to protect from a heavy rain. If you do get caught in the rain here is what you should do.

• Wipe off as much excess wetness as possible and hang to dry. Allow to thoroughly dry. DO NOT place your leather jacket near any heat source.
• Once your leather is completely dry see if you need to spot clean. You can do this with a small amount of gentle bath soap or saddle soap on a damp cloth and work into a light lather. Do not soak your leather. Use a fresh damp cloth to wipe off the leather. Polish the leather with a dry towel.
• Next step is conditioning. While the leather is still a little damp apply a thin coat of conditioner. Hang your leather motorcycle jacket in a warm dry place for about an hour. Wipe off excess conditioner. If necessary wait 24 hours and apply another light coat of conditioner waiting about and hour and wiping of the excess conditioner.
• After this apply a light spray of leather repellent/protectorant and allow to dry.

If you get mud on your motorcycle jacket scrape off as much as possible and allow to dry. Once the remaining mud has dried you can brush it off with a medium stiff natural brush and following the cleaning advise as above. If your leather jacket is dusty you can just brush it with a medium shoe brush or mohair brush and wipe down your leather.

Other tips for maintaining your new leather jacket look.

• Always use a wooden or padded hangers
• Do not store your leather in an enclosed bag. Leather just like suede, comes from living things and need room to breath.
• It is not recommended to use silicones, turpentine substances, wax, mineral spirits or alcohol substances. These items should be avoided as they can ruin your leather.
• AVOID taking your leather to a dry cleaner. Most of them do not know how to properly care for leather. If you must get your leather jacket cleaned, seek a professional leather cleaner and one that is recommended if at all possible. 

All of the above advise can be used for cleaning your other leather garments, such as chaps, luggage, Ladies leather jackets, gloves etc. With proper maintenance of your leather motorcycle jacket it will last you a lifetime. Enjoy and ride carefully.
